Strong Sam Schenk performance at the Virginia Scholastic Chess Championships
Sam Schenk, a 6th-grader at Williamsburg Middle School and the top-ranked K-12 chess player in Arlington County, had a strong performance in the annual Virginia Scholastic Chess Championships, held March 15-16 in Roanoke.
Schenk scored 4 wins and a draw in 6 rounds to finish 18th out of 115 in the K-8 section, a result which moved him up to 69th place on the United States Chess Federation list of the Top 100 6th-graders in the nation.
Sam is coached by International Master Alex Battey, director of instruction and technology at Arlington Students Chess.
